Is a Mission Trip Fun? Haiti, 2012

My son and I are leaving the house in just under 12 hours for the trip of a lifetime – a mission trip with Healing Haiti!

People say “Have fun in Haiti!” and I wonder, will it actually be “fun?” Honestly, fun isn’t the connotation I have when I think of Haiti.

I am, however, anticipating God showing up and doing powerful things in our lives, and changing us from the inside out!

And I know we are Blessed. I know beyond a doubt that we GO blessed, we WILL BE blessed by the people we meet and serve, and we will COME BACK blessed. (and we will realize afresh how abundantly blessed we are to live in the US!)

And the countless people who’ve prayed, donated, helped and supported us in amazing ways are BLESSINGS to us.

The verse that holds me up as I prepare my heart, and my suitcase, is from the Psalms:

You hem me in —behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.”

God has gone before our group, preparing the works we will do, the lives we will touch, the transformation we will experience, the blessings we will receive in countless ways. God will come behind us (and watch over those we leave behind at home!) and HEM us in. There is no more comforting vision to me than that – we are surrounded by God as we come and go.

In the hectic pace of Summer, I pray that you will cherish that promise in all you have planned.

We would treasure your prayers during our trip from Monday, June 11 through Monday late night, June 18th, 2012.
