Prayer is still the Universal language

This summer has been filled with minutia, missions and moving.

Looking back, choosing a highlight is impossible, but the vastness of what’s transpired causes revelation. I am awed by the common thread – Prayer.

No matter what country, state or city I was in, I was able to participate in the universal language of prayer. I had the privilege of praying in the most awesome and humble of circumstances:

In the Haitian huts of impoverished families, spoken in Creole
Over the phone with devoted sisters in Christ giving me strength to face the chaos and challenge of our summer
Through tears as we said goodbye to our Minnesota home
At the bedside of a dying relative
Coming and going with my children entrenched in unfamiliar territory
With women I’ve never met before at my kids’ new school
In the living room of a newly made friend
Walking along the road with the mountains belaying their beauty

I am ever amazed at how God uses this universal language to bond us, shape us and comfort us.

And this summer was no exception.

Even when I couldn’t understand the language, I knew God was present in the most dire of circumstances in Haiti.
Even when I couldn’t form the words through my tears, others lovingly spoke them for me.
Even when I couldn’t understand the reason for such anguish, God gave me words of comfort and peace.
Even when I couldn’t name the people in the room, God united our voices in common sentiment.

Prayer is a universal difference maker.
